What is Digital Download?
Part workshop, part training and part conference, Digital Download is a new type of interactive event devised to provide you with real, practical action plans that you can take away and implement in your company the very next day.
I’m a huge believer in learning through doing. So rather than sitting passively listening to others in a stuffy auditorium for six hours, at Digital Download you will come to use your brain. There are Q&As with topic experts that will give you as much back as you put in; there are presentations that give you the opportunity to think and to discuss; and there’s a workshop where you’re going to need to get your hands dirty!
It’s an action-packed day and you’ll learn an awful lot. But I guarantee you’ll have fun doing it.

10.00 am INTRODUCTION: THE DIGITAL UNIVERSE
‘Digital’ means a lot of things to a lot of people. There are websites and apps, there’s social media and SEO and email, and there’s private messaging and mobile technology. Among lots of other digital ‘stuff’. PR and communications professionals are, understandably, bamboozled by all this and tend to view everything in isolation. In this session you will learn why this narrow view of digital is incorrect and how we can best understand how everything works together in order to exploit it.
It’s perhaps the buzz topic of the moment and yet is still misunderstood. Celebrity influence is on the wane, and the rise of everyday people who have the power to transform your communications strategy is changing the face of marketing. So how do PR and communications people find those ‘everyday people’ on Instagram or YouTube? How do we dig out and encourage user generated content? And how do we best work with influential individuals? This is a chance for you to put your questions about working with influential individuals and what turns them on to number one family and food influencer Emily Leary (who you might better know as A Mummy Too), one of the most respected bloggers/vloggers/grammers out there.

Four speakers, each of whom has only five minutes and a set number of slides to get their point across. No waffle, no sales pitches, no time for boredom! 12.15 pm WHAT TO MEASURE IN DIGITAL AND HOW
There are strong rumours that Facebook may stop showing fan numbers on Pages. Cue mass panic among PR and communications professionals. Follower numbers are largely meaningless. Reach and engagement rates measure nothing more than content popularity. So what are we supposed to measure then? In this session I’ll introduce the 4R Model of digital evaluation, we’ll look at Google Analytics, and I’ll provide you with a measurement framework that you can take away and customise for your own organisation.
There’s no way you can understand the intensity, velocity and pressure of a crisis on social media without having experienced it. Until now, that is. Polpeo has developed some remarkable software that simulates a crisis breaking in real time and puts you in the driving seat. I’ve worked with Polpeo to deliver crisis workshops to several clients over the past two years, and the realism of the experience never fails to wow delegates (or me!). In this hour long simulation, you’ll
be subjected to experience what it’s like to have to man the pumps during a crisis and will learn a best practice approach to digital crisis management. And in a post-truth era where trust in the media is at an all-time low and fake news spreads like wildfire, it might be advisable to bring spare pants for this session!

Gini Dietrich is one of the most respected public relations thought leaders in the world. Author of two books and founder of Spin Sucks, the number one public relations blog, Gini speaks regularly in the United States but has never appeared at an event in the UK. Until now.
In her 2014 book ‘Spin Sucks: Communication and Reputation Management in the Digital Age’, Gini introduced the PESO Model. It’s since been quoted and shared and reinvented many, many times. But how do you actually put what, on the surface, seems like a simple way of fully integrating digital into communications strategies into practice? In this live Skype interview with Gini from her office in Chicago (nothing can go wrong there then…) we’re going to get the lowdown straight from the horse’s mouth. (As it were. Sorry, Gini.)
