Digital Download Live 2018

Digital Download Live 2018 took place on 7th June 2018 at The London Art House in Islington.

Against a rather pessimistic backdrop around the communications industry, the theme of the event was Meaningful Communications. The day investigated some of the major threats to the industry and then discussed how to counter those threats and how to take advantage of the opportunities arising from digital technology.

Among the topics discussed were the decline in consumer trust of the media and social networks, a potential crash in influencer marketing, developments in Facebook reach and the switch to dark social, the threat of AI and automation, and the rapid rise of podcasting and voice recognition technology.

Taking all of these developments into account, communications is being led down a route where messaging and brands increasingly have to mean something to people’s lives.

The atmosphere at Digital Download Live was fantastic - it was really open and collaborative. Everyone was there to learn and I loved that. The egos were left at the door. The content was practical and actionable, and it was just a really refreshing event to be a part of.

This was much more than a passive day of listening. The mix of workshops, discussions and Q&As worked really well, and the day was all the better for that. The hands-on learning was very valuable, and each speaker highlighted additional reading and practical steps I could follow, some explicitly, which was really helpful. The Digital Download approach means you get to know one another - even in a small way - and feel part the group.

Great mix of content: informal but highly informative from both a strategic and practical skill-learning perspective. I loved the relaxed 'round-table' approach, and the level of interaction between speakers and audience. There was a genuine sharing of insight and practical tips.
